The Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Internship Programme (2026–27)

It was inaugurated today at Mata Tripura Sundari Open University (MTSOU), Agartala, marking the launch of a significant academic initiative aimed at enhancing research capabilities, digital skills, and interdisciplinary learning among undergraduate students of Maharaja Bir Bikram College, Tripura.

The programme has been initiated following a communication from the Government of Tripura, Education (Higher) Department. Vide letter No. F.2 (19-16)-DHE/UDCA/2022 dated 23/02/2026, the Department forwarded a proposal received from the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, MTSOU, regarding the undertaking of an internship programme for students of Tripura. The letter, issued by the Additional Secretary & Director, Higher Education Department, requested Principals of all Government General Degree Colleges to take necessary action as per established procedures and norms, thereby facilitating the implementation of this internship initiative across institutions.

Aligned with this directive, MTSOU has organized the current internship programme as a 9-day intensive course (72 hours), being conducted in a hybrid mode (offline and online) at the MTSOU Conference Hall, Hapania. The initiative is in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and focuses on experiential learning, field-based engagement, and skill development. The inaugural session included the formal opening and programme introduction, attended by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and other distinguished dignitaries. The programme emphasizes the integration of academic knowledge with practical exposure, particularly within the socio-cultural context of Tripura and the Northeast region.

On the first day, sessions were conducted on Research Methodology and Academic Writing, covering research design, ethics, citation practices (APA 7th edition), and plagiarism awareness. Participants were also introduced to digital tools including MS Word formatting, referencing techniques, AI tools, and Google Forms. The day concluded with a practical session on Excel basics and data analysis for survey design. With the theme “Bridging Knowledge, Skills, and Society,” the internship aims to prepare students for academic excellence and real-world challenges through interdisciplinary exploration and community-oriented learning.

The orientation phase will continue tomorrow with sessions on internship report preparation, fieldwork methodologies, communication skills, and discipline-specific discussions across humanities, social sciences, language, IT, and commerce.

MTSOU reaffirms its commitment to fostering innovation, knowledge, and social responsibility among students through such forward-looking academic initiatives.
