Prof Saroj Pandey(Retd) has done M.A (Pol Science), M.Ed (Edu) and Ph.D (Education) from Allahabad University and Certificate on ‘Child rights and classroom processes’ from SIDA, Sweden. Her area of expertise includes teacher education, distance education, research methodology, child rights, human rights and peace education. She has more than thirty eight years of teaching, training, and research experience and has taught at graduate post graduate level and doctoral levels. She has served in the Department of Education, Allahabad University, Regional Institute of Education Bhubaneswar, NCERT, Department of Teacher Education & Extension (DTEE) at National Council of Educational Research and Training(NCERT)(1989-1011), and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU – 2011-2020).
Prof Pandey had been the Director of School of Education at IGNOU from 2016- 2019. She has undertaken a number of policy and evaluative researches on Training needs of teachers, Teacher Education Curriculum, Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Teacher Education Institutions, Teacher Appraisal, Legislation and Compulsory Education, Teacher Professionalism in rural areas, and peace and human rights education etc. She had been a member of DPEP Core Resource Group during her tenure at NCERT and was assigned the responsibility of research activities.
She was also member of the Focus Group on Peace education 2005 in the context of development of NCF 2005. She had been actively engaged in the implementation of major centrally sponsored schemes on education/ teacher education like, District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) , Special Orientation of Primary Teachers (SOPT, as the National Coordinator) , and SarvaShikshaAbhiyan (SSA) etc. during her tenure in NCERT. With her keen desire to share her ideas pertaining to various aspects of education, teacher educational research, human rights education and peace education with the teacher fraternity she has delivered lectures and attended a number of expert group meetings at national and international forums and widely travelled and consulted by national and international bodies.
Prof Pandey had been actively engaged in UNESCO Programme and activities with focus on Peace Education. She has been the member of various national level expert committees of NCTE entrusted with the responsibility of developing curriculum framework for teacher education in the country. She has authored more than 100 publications in the form of articles, research papers, self-learning materials, chapters in books, and published research papers/articles in national and international journals and is life member of a number of National / International academic associations, and Board of Studies of Universities.
