Dr. Janata Sadhan Jamatia is currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Sociology, with the additional charge of Assistant Registrar, at Mata Tripura Sundari Open University (MTSOU), Tripura. He holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from Tripura University (A Central University), an M.Phil. from Sikkim Central University, and has been awarded the PhD degree in Sociology by Tripura University. His doctoral research is titled “Re-inventing Indigeneity as a Cultural Practice: A Sociological Study of Bengalis and Tribes in Tripura.”
His research interests primarily focus on indigeneity, tribal culture, and cultural studies. He is a recipient of the NET Junior/Senior Research Fellowship awarded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and also qualified the State Eligibility Test (SET) in 2018.
Dr. Jamatia has published research articles on tribal culture and festivals of Tripura tribes in UGC-recognized journals, including Lokaratna publication. He has teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Tripura University during his tenure as a PhD research scholar. He has also presented research papers and delivered talks on various sociological themes at multiple academic forums.
In addition to his academic career, he has professional experience as a Counsellor and as a Sub-Divisional Programme Manager under the Tripura National Health Mission, contributing to development-oriented and administrative initiatives.
